Patricia Crifo nommée à la Cour des comptes : une économiste engagée au service de l'intérêt général

CREST congratulates the appointment of Patricia Crifo as Conseillère maître at the Cour des comptes, made official by decree on 16 July 2025. This distinction marks a new milestone in the career of a committed researcher, equally dedicated to teaching and research on climate and sustainable finance, corporate governance, corporate social and environmental responsibility, growth, and the dynamics of biased technical progress. 

An academic path of excellence

A graduate of the École normale supérieure, agrégée in economics and management, and holder of a PhD on the links between inequality, innovation, and growth, Patricia Crifo joined École polytechnique in 2005 as a CNRS Chargée de recherche. She served as Professeure chargée de cours à temps incomplet (2007–2019), and since 2019 has been a full-time Professor seconded from Université Paris Nanterre.

A Professor in the Department of Economics and a permanent member of CREST, Patricia is Director of the Master’s programme "Economics for Smart Cities and Climate Policy" and Deputy Director of the interdisciplinary centre E4C (Energy4Climate) centre interdisciplinaire E4C (Energy4Climate). She also co-directs the la chaire "Finance Durable et Investissement Responsable (FDIR)" chair.

Her research, published in leading international journals (Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, etc.), focuses on corporate governance, sustainable finance, corporate social and environmental responsibility (CSR), and climate policies. 

A researcher engaged in public institutions

With recognised expertise, Patricia Crifo has also taken on numerous institutional commitments, including:

National and international recognition

Her career has been recognised on several occasions: 

  • Best Young Researcher Award (Lyon, 2002);
  • Nomination for the Best Young Economist Award by Le Monde and Le Cercle des Économistes (2010);
  • Chevalier de l'Ordre national du Mérite (2014) ;
  • Qiqi Award for Women in Science contributing tot the SDGs (Shanghai, 2024) ;
  • X-RSE Award for Commitment and Partnerships (2025).
A new role at the Cour des comptes 

The presidential decree of 16 July 2025 lappoints her as Conseillère maître at the Cour des comptes. This appointment recognises her expertise and contributions to the field of sustainable public policy. 

The Cour des comptes, France’s supreme independent audit institution, is responsible for auditing the legality and efficiency of public spending, evaluating public policies, and informing the choices of Parliament and Government. In her new role, Patricia Crifo will contribute to drafting public reports, analysing State and local government finances, and monitoring the implementation of recommendations aimed at improving public management.
